The Danger of Sleepovers: Tim Challies’ Top Post of 2014

Hello and happy new year!

Are you familiar with Tim Challies’ excellent (and popular) blog? I follow it and recommend you do the same.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll find on Tim’s blog: His #1 post of 2014 was a thoughtful examination of the dangers to children inherent in sleepovers. This is highly recommended reading for young parents. Here’s the link to Why My Family Doesn’t Do Sleepovers.

I personally had a bad experience when an older teen boy attempted to molest me during a sleepover when I was 15. Nothing came of it since I was the stronger of us. Back then, I naively thought of this as weird and “gay,” but not criminal or dangerous, so I never reported it. Now we’re all a lot more aware. Challies’ article points out that molesters are often the kids themselves, or older siblings or cousins, not the unknown parent.

So, BE CAREFUL!

For the record, our children were allowed sleepovers rarely, and only when they were older. We were always very, very, cautious. I advise you to err on the side of caution, too.

My you experience the grace of safety from harm in the new year.
