Sunday Call to Worship: The Earth Is the Lord’s

The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, For he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.—a Psalm of David (Psalm 24:1-2)

DOCTRINE

Everything belongs to God. What you have. What you need. What you desire.

Everyone belongs to God. You. Those you love. Those you don’t.

All are His.

He created all things and sustains all things by His powerful Word.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Come, give God His due. Honor Him who orders all things and all people so that you have life. Seek Him from whom every good gift comes.

Come with thanksgiving for yesterday and today. He is near.

Come with trust for tomorrow. He goes before you.

Should Average Us Offer a Call to Worship?

Hello everyone!

Thank you for reading Average Us, and responding with your comments and questions. Dawn and I really appreciate that you share your precious time with us.

I’m writing to ask you a favor. I just want some feedback from you please…

I have thought about adding a regular post series designed to be a call to worship to help you and me prepare for congregational worship each Sunday morning.

We all lead busy lives, and (if you’re average like me and Dawn) it can be tough to detach from all the visible, tangible distractions to focus on honoring the one, true, living, and redeeming God with our worship. So, my hope is that these posts would help us all detach and provide a little fuel to stoke up your worship fire.

These posts would be:

  • Very short and sharable
  • Scripture-based
  • Christ- and gospel-focused
  • Intended to help you prepare for congregational worship
  • A regular weekend feature, like our Photo Fridays (as close to weekly as possible)

Here’s an example of what I have in mind….

All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.—Matthew 11:27-28

Hear this call to worship:

Jesus is at the center of God’s sovereign grace in the gospel.

Focus your worship of God on Jesus, the Son of God.

Jesus’ gospel call is simple—”come to me.”

Come to him in repentance and faith. He will receive you.

Jesus promises eternal sabbath rest with God.

Surrender your attempts to earn God’s favor, and simply trust Jesus’ promise instead.

So, what do you think?

Would this be a welcome addition for you?

Would you share it?

Would you subscribe to receive these by email?

Would you prefer them Saturday evening or early Sunday morning?

I really appreciate any comments you want to make about this.

Thanks so much!

Lon
